Changing the World One Savasana at a Time (about Val Brown)

By January 29, 2014 Yoga Shala

In October of 2013, our very own Registered Yoga Teacher, Val Brown, attended and completed 22 hours of Relax & Renew Level 1 Advanced Yoga Teacher Training with Judith Hansen Lasater at Yoga Yoga in Austin, Texas. Judith Hanson Lasater is the founder and exclusive teacher of the Restorative Yoga practice.

After completing the Relax & Renew Level 1 Teacher Training, Val, conducted a Restorative Yoga case study in which volunteer students with special conditions and concerns were given a custom Restorative Yoga “prescription”. The students then reported the results and findings after 1 week of Restorative Yoga.
“Working 20 hours on my feet in two days definitely takes a toll on my body and I usually feel it for a day or two afterward. But this particular week I was virtually pain free. My feet did not hurt during the shift, my back was not sore the next morning, and I felt very energized throughout my shifts. I am officially a restorative yoga junkie after this week.” – Chelsea Griffin, Relax and Renew Case Study Student

“One of the more rewarding parts of participating in the case study was the clarity of mind I felt after finishing my practice each day. I began practicing Restorative Yoga in hopes of reconnecting with myself in meaningful ways and to find a nice balance of thought and mindfulness. I am very pleased to say that participating in the case study contributed to an overall positive week in my life and I look forward to seeing where my practice will lead me next.” – Mark Holwerda, Relax and Renew Case Study Student
Val’s Relax and Renew Case Study was submitted for review to Judith Hanson Lasater and approval was given. Val received an official Relax and Renew Trainer certification and is now currently listed on www.RestorativeYogaTeachers.com.
Join Val Brown for Restorative Yoga at the Yoga Shala each Friday from 5:45 – 7:00pm.
