YOGA TEACHER TRAINING

Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) at the Yoga Shala Lubbock is designed to creatively nurture and support Lubbock and West Texas’ growing yoga community. Our goal is to graduate educated, inspired, and compassionate teachers who, through a scientific understanding of the functional aspects of yoga and the mindful application of yogic philosophy, facilitate safe class experiences that are sensitive to the individual as well as to the group. Yoga Shala Lubbock is dedicated to offering the highest quality training through an exceptionally designed curriculum, interaction with a diverse and highly respected faculty, and adherence to the highest ethical standards.

We are one of the only Yoga Teacher Training program in West Texas recognized by the Yoga Alliance. Students who successfully complete the Yoga Shala Lubbock Yoga Teacher Training program qualify to register with the Yoga Alliance.

YOGA TEACHER TRAINING DIRECTORS

Lisa Garner Santa, D.M.A., E-RYT 200, RYT 500 and Director of Yoga Shala Lubbock, began teaching yoga in 2007 after graduating from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. She led the Yoga 4 Musicians course at the Texas Tech University School of Music from 2007-2013, where she is also Professor of Flute. In recognition of her dedicated and creative teaching, Lisa received TTU’s 2013 President’s Excellence in Teaching Award. She continues to deepen her experience of Yoga, Sanskrit and philosophy through study with Dr. M.A. Jayashree and M.A. Narasimhan, founders of the Anantha Research Foundation in Mysore, India. She recently returned from Mysore where she participated in a month-long study at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI) as as student of Saraswati Jois. In the summer of 2012, Lisa was a faculty assistant at Kripalu during the July month-long intensive Yoga Teacher Training. She is a member of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association and is a registered member of Yoga Alliance. For information on Lisa’s music career, please visit lisagarnersanta.com.

Selina Vaughn, took her first yoga class in 2005 and was instantly inspired by the healing power of this ancient practice. She attended yoga teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, in Stockbridge, MA, earning her 200 hour certification in 2008, and her 500 hour in 2010.  She recently completed Yoga Therapy training at Yoga Yoga in Austin. Selina teaches from experience in a variety of styles, including Kripalu, Ashtanga, Yin, Restorative, and Yoga Therapy. Using the techniques and principles of yoga, she has been working with people of all ages to improve their level of health and reduce stress. She has a unique ability to make yoga accessible to most anyone. Selina has been a health care professional for many years, with a degree in Radiology, a Massage Therapy Certification, Medical Sales Representative, and Chiropractic Assistant. She began teaching yoga in 2008 and has never looked back.

GUEST FACULTY

*Dr. M.A. Jayashree served as a Professor and Head of the Department of Sanskrit at D.Banumaiah’s college in Mysore, Karnataka. She holds a doctorate in Sanskrit from Bangalore University for the thesis on the “Concept of Mind in Indian philosophy”. Dr. Jayashree has authored many books, monographs and papers in the fields of Sanskrit, Ancient Sciences, Indian History, Indian Culture and Music. An accomplished teacher of spoken Sanskrit, propagating learning of spoken Sanskrit through simple means, Dr Jayashree has a large following of overseas students in this field. Her special interests include discourses on Puranas, Tiruppavai & Philosophy, music and art. She is also the editor of ‘Itihasa Rasmi’, a journal on Indian History in Kannada. In addition, she holds a Masters degree in Karnatic music, is an accomplished vocalist of classical South Indian Karnatic Music, and is a recognised, successful artist in the Mysore school of painting. Most recently, Dr Jayashree presented a paper on “Gamaka in Manasollassa”, a Sanskrit encyclopaedic work, at the Thirteenth World Sanskrit Conference in Edinburgh, UK.

*Sri. M.A.Narasimhan is the Director of the Anantha Research Foundation. He is a research scholar specializing in the fields of Indian culture and the Sciences of ancient India. Originally a science graduate, he holds Masters degrees in Education and Sanskrit and is an advanced yoga practitioner. Prof. Narasimhan has authored books, monographs and papers in the fields of Indian history, Science, Sanskrit and Philosophy. He is a contributing editor for journals such as Ithihasa Samachar, Ithihasa Rashmi, and Tattvadipa. Currently, Prof. Narasimhan is engaged in the investigation of cosmology in ancient Indian Texts and also in preparing a dictionary of Indian culture in ten volumes. He also teaches Transcendental Meditation. Both Dr. Jayashree and Prof. Narasimhan regularly participate in seminars and conferences across India on Indian Education, Science, Culture, and the role of Sanskrit in the Modern Age.
