SHALA ETIQUITTE

  • Arrive a little early to set up for your practice. If another class is still in progress, please wait until the pervious class concludes before entering the studio.
  • Be mindful of personal hygiene. Remember yoga is an intimate setting.
  • Check in with the front desk, even if you’ve signed in online.
  • Leave your shoes in the lobby cubbies.
  • Leave items you wish to bring into the studio in the studio cubbies. Please leave valuables at home. Neither Yoga Shala Lubbock nor HWY108 is responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Silence all cell phones and tablets, including buzzers or alarms.
  • Enter and exit the studio quietly. Please minimize conversation.
  • Let the teacher know about injuries or conditions that might affect your practice.
  • Mindfully and quietly set out your mat and gather any regularly used or requested props prior to the start of class.
  • If a class has already begun, please wait until the class centering is complete before entering. Then, slip in and quietly take your place.
  • If you are more than 15 minutes late to a class, it is in the interest of your safety, as well as a show of respect toward those already present, not to take the class.
  • If someone enters late to class, smile and make room. Lateness happens. (If it becomes habitual, be prepared for a glare from the teacher.)
  • Work within your personal “edge.”
  • Keep variations appropriate.  To reduce the intensity of a posture, it is always fine to take a more basic variation. If you want more intensity, the teacher will offer advanced variations where appropriate.
  • Be dedicated to your practice while embracing a sense of lightheartedness. It’s OK to appropriately smile and laugh.  It’s only yoga.
  • Be mindful of “watchasana” or becoming absorbed in your neighbor’s practice. Yes, we can learn from watching others, but allow your practice to remain your practice.  Remember, drishti – drishti – drishti!
  • Do quietly ask your teacher for help if you need assistance or clarification. They will do their best to help you while maintaining the flow of the class.
  • If you need to use the restroom during class, you do not need to ask permission. Please leave and return in a way that best respects the current energy of the class.
  • After class, neatly return all studio props to their assigned locations.
  • Questions before and after class are always welcome. We also love to hear about your insights and experiences.
  • Be respectful of your teachers and your classmates – “Be kind for everyone is fighting a hard battle.”
  • Allow two or three hours between your last meal and taking class.
  • Please hydrate before class. If you feel you need water during class, please take small sips.  Always hydrate after class.
  • Please refrain from wearing strong perfumes to class.
  • Please wear clothing that exercises an appropriate amount of modesty.
  • Audio and video recordings, as well as photography, are not permissible.
  • Practice non-attachment.  Fall in love with the process.
